March 23 Family Update

Dear Parents and Students,

As the official March Break has come to a close, and we begin the first week of Ministry mandated closure, we just wanted to provide a little more information about what you may expect for the next couple of weeks.

First, and foremost, we hope that every family is safe and healthy and practising the guidelines from Ottawa Public Health in order to stay that way.  We recognize that this is a very uncertain time, and physical and emotional health remains the primary concern for everyone.

Over the next week, your child(ren)’s teacher will be reaching out to you either via email or telephone.  He/she will be letting you know what students can do either online or at home to support their learning, should you wish to direct them to do so.

The Province of Ontario launched a new online tool to help students continue learning while schools are closed. The online resource is in line with the kindergarten to grade 12 curriculum. The Learn at Home website is now live. The website contains reading material for elementary and secondary students. Qualified tutors will be made available through TVO, available to answer questions from students.

Second, some further suggestions can be accessed by using this link Learning at Home Ideas - St. Elizabeth. These ideas have been generated by various educators in the OCSB.

Third, as you know, all students and staff at St. Elizabeth participate in calming activities and are committed to the focus of self regulation. The creator of Mindfulness Rocks, Rebecca Lira, is offering a Free Mindfulness Program for Kids (parents are encouraged to participate too) to help everyone stay grounded and calm throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the situation evolves, we will do our best to keep you all informed as we navigate through this most unique of situations.
